WaMu laying off 3,000, cutting dividendWHAT WAMU PLANS TO DOWashington Mutual Inc. heaped more bad news on its beleaguered employees and shareholders Tuesday, announcing thousands more layoffs, a deal worth billions that sent the stock price tumbling, another dividend cut and first-quarter results that will be even worse than the low expectations. Washington Mutual announced several measures aimed at bolstering the company:
- Investors will provide $7 billion of new capital in exchange for company shares.
- WaMu plans to close all 186 of its freestanding home loan offices (including 23 in Washington, most of those in the Puget Sound region), laying off 3,000 employees. That comes on top of nearly 3,300 job cuts announced in December. It also plans to end wholesale lending, meaning loans produced through brokers. The company has said in recent months that it plans to drive more of its home loan business through its 2,200 retail-bank branches. In addition, WaMu is closing a loan fulfillment center in Bellevue, which employs 119. The company expects to complete the closings by the end of the second quarter.
Yep. Fired. I left a 100K + job to go and work for the countries largest home loan and home financial center with upward potential. 90 days of a training and onboarding process, I'm on the job for less than 60 days.
