A Challenger appeasr!

The Cam and ECC both verified that they are bringing their drinks to NorWesCon and want to compete in CONCoction and IRON BARTENDER competition.

We gonna let this go unanswered? We got someone who'se willing to step up to the plate?

SOMEBODY in this crazy group (other than me) must sure be able to mix a mean drink...

ConCoction Contest (6-8pm Friday)

Got a good party beverage? Sure, YOU think it’s pretty tasty, but how does it measure up to what everyone ELSE is serving? Come put it to the test side by side with the competition.

Rules:

• Set-up begins at 5:30pm; we will provide tables, but you need to bring anything else you need. You are not required to use a table if you would prefer to be a wandering vagabond. Doors open to the public at 6pm.
  
• Let me say that again: YOU NEED TO BRING ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED. Yes, that includes cups. If you are too cheap to buy cups (or you run out), we MIGHT have a FEW cups on hand to spare. They will be the tiny, lame little cups like you get at the dentist’s office.
  
• Pre-register your drink in order to appear on the ballot. Otherwise, your victory will depend on a write-in by an intoxicated populace.
  
• Voting closes at 8pm. Winner will be determined by popular attendee vote (calculated by our Sophisticated Computerized Ballot System). One vote per attendee, no absentee or proxy votes! If you aren’t there to taste test, you can’t judge!
  
• A “judges’ choice” award will also be given to the drink that most impresses the event hosts. Judging will be based on taste, strength, and presentation.
  
• No pre-made, commercial drink mixes. Traditional mixers may be included as PART of a recipe, however the end result must be significantly different from the component elements. (ie, you can use sour mix from the store, if your drink calls for sour mix, but not if you are simply making a Whiskey Sour.)
  
• NO TIP JARS (per Washington state law). Guests are permitted to tip their bartenders directly (ie “body tips”). J
  
• PRIZES: The winner of the popular vote becomes the Challenger in Iron Bartender at 9pm. Other fabulous prizes for both categories will be awarded at Saturday night’s Award Ceremony at 10pm.
  

Iron Bartender (9-10pm Friday)



The winner of the ConCoction contest has, by the audacity of his skill, challenged the worthiness of accomplished bartenders everywhere. Here at the Party at the End of the Universe, he has especially affronted our own champion: the Iron Bartender. The Challenger must now do battle with the Iron Bartender to decide once and for all whose skills reign supreme!



Rules:

• This battle will be fought in three matches: each bartender must demonstrate their skills in making a shooter, a martini, and a cocktail. However, each of these drinks must include a secret ingredient, to be revealed at the start of each match. (Note: in consideration of the nature of alcoholic beverages, each round will have a different secret ingredient, so as to not cause our judges to hurl.)
  
• The Iron Bartender and the Challenger must each make a round of drinks for our panel of 5 judges, who will then judge based on Strength, Taste, and Presentation.
  
• Standard bar basics will be provided, including staple liquor and mixers, as well as the secret ingredients. Anything special that the Bartenders will need must be provided on their own.
  
• All drinks must be mixed onsite during the competition. No pre-made drinks.
  
• The competition is open to anyone regardless of whether they hold a bartending license.
  
• Prizes will be awarded at Saturday night’s Award Ceremony at 10pm.
